Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison are internationally renowned artists who create powerful and mesmerizing images that combine photography, performance, collage and painting. Their unique artistic technique has caused their work to become some of the most sought-after contemporary art in America. They create large-scale coherent narratives reminiscent of early 19th century images imbued with futuristic allegories. The fate and state of the earth and the attempt to heal is the prevailing topic. Each work is the result of painstaking research involving hundreds of drawings and sketches as well as hours of reading and writing, with influences as far-ranging as literature, dreams, artists both historical and contemporary, inventors, theater, and cinema.
Robert ParkeHarrison received his M.F.A. in photography from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque (1994), and Shana ParkeHarrison received her B.F.A. in dance from William Woods College (1986). Their works are included in numerous collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park.
The ParkeHarrisons are recipients of several awards and fellowships. They received a grant from the Peter S. Reed Foundation (2003), an Artist Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (2001), and the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship (1999). In addition, Robert is a professor of Art at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and both Robert and Shana are frequent lecturers and visiting artists at universities across the country.
